From the beginning Durabuilt Construction Inc. offered the installation of Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems(EIFS) as a service acknowledging the many advantages of this cladding system.

What is EIFS?

This technology was developed in Europe over 40 years ago. It has been used worldwide for many years as a cladding component of new construction or existing retrofit projects

Basic EIFS consists of the following components:

• Air/Vapor barrier (optional)

• Insulation board

• Basecoat with embedded reinforcing fiberglass mesh

• Acrylic finish

• Basic EIFS

Applications

EIFS can be installed virtually in any geographic location with temperatures from extreme heat to extreme cold conditions

It is either field applied on site or used as a component in the prefabrication of wall panels which are generally manufactured in a shop environment, then shipped and installed on site (see penalization for more information on our Durabuilt Wall Panels).

EIFS can be applied to new construction or retrofit projects.  They can range from simple homes to complex building structures with very little design limitations.

Cost effective and energy efficient.

Because the insulation board is on the outside of the building, thermal bridging is eliminated, air and moisture penetration is eliminated and interior thermal shock is eliminated which results in stabilized interior environments. With the effectiveness of keeping the cold and heat out, energy and cost savings are benefited year after year.

Cost effectiveness of building construction costs.

Due to its lightweight construction ( just over 1 pound per square foot), costly structural requirements are reduced and not needed such as you would need with conventional building materials.  Its ease of application also reduces construction schedules compared to some conventional building products, which results in quicker turnovers and revenues.

Architecturally inspiring and design friendly

Unique and imaginative details can be created with the shaping of the insulation board and coating.  Hundreds of colors and many textures can be applied to give a truly creative appearance.  Shapes and mouldings can also be added to the building such as columns and arches giving even more uniqueness and creativity at affordable costs.

Building code design compatibility

With the changing and evolving building codes, the EIFS industry has adapted and can offer different systems to accommodate requirements for fire rated assemblies and rain screen design.
